At the just-concluded IAGR conference, Theme: “Resilient regulation: Exploring what works, why and what’s next”, Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) received the Regulatory Innovation Award from the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR) for its groundbreaking initiative, SAFEPLAY — Africa’s first regulator-led, multi-operator self-exclusion platform.
Centrally managed by the regulator and fully integrated with licensed operator systems, SAFEPLAY enables unified player self-exclusion across multiple platforms, ensuring consistent and transparent consumer protection. The initiative demonstrates how technology-driven regulation can enhance responsible gaming, strengthen oversight, and promote industry integrity.
By introducing a replicable model for digital harm prevention, LSLGA has positioned Lagos as a continental leader in innovative, consumer-focused gaming regulation, setting a new standard for regulatory excellence and player welfare across Africa.
The other recipient is the Danish Gambling Authority for the youth education campaign.
